Should everyone go to college?
I think if you have the funds and will to go to college, everyone should. If you don't, it will be hard to be successful in this world. If you truly feel like college is not for you and is a waste of money, then you shouldn't go.
Is college an equal opportunity for everyone?
This is a tough question depending on how you interpret it. I see this question as "Is college a place where everyone can get in and be equally as successful?" In this case, I do not believe college is an equal opportunity because most colleges has a minimum grade requirement and if you do not meet that than you will be denied. Also, I believe it is not an equal opportunity for adults because in college classes, professors start teaching classes that most kids know some of the material from high school. In a math class, for example, some students are coming straight from high school where they already know that material and can be successful. College is set up to benefit the student who comes straight from high school so that is why I believe college isn't a fair opportunity for everyone.
I agree with what you said about college not being an equal opportunity for everyone. Especially for adults because we as students have the advantage. We are coming fresh out of high school where we have grasped the basic concepts of most of the subjects that we see in college. For adults, this is much harder because they have to start from scratch, having little to no knowledge of some topics. It is extremely difficult in this world to just jump right into something having no prior knowledge or experience with it. We as students have the edge also because companys nowadays are looking for young people fresh out of college that they think will last a while with them. It is harder to hire someone that has no experience (like the students), that is older and will not be working as long as a younger college graduate.
ReplyDeleteI also must agree with your statement about how if you can find the means to go to college, you should do it. But a key factor is that you must be willing to work hard and apply yourself to the workload because frankly, college isn't the place to mess around. If you really do not think that you can handle the workload, and are just here to party, then college isn't the right place to you. A lot of people go to college for a semester and decide after the fact that the college experience is not right for them. So I too would strongly advise that you really think about it before paying all of that money.
